In these days of of economic malaise (and though I warned of such disaster beginning in 2006, the trillions in "stimulus" spent by a Democrat congress and president back in early 2009 rendered it inevitable), we cannot depend upon electricity, gas, or the dollar. I had a surplus of oatmeal, and decided this past weekend that it was time to bake the stuff into muesli before it's too late. Some of us cannot afford solar ovens or panels. If there is no electricity or gas to bake or cook the oatmeal, it would likely go to waste in an emergency, I reckoned. I created one variety of muesli/"granola" with home-made apple syrup, cinnamon, walnuts and almonds, and another batch with shredded coconut, coconut milk, pineapple and banana. There are many recipes for granola and muesli on the internet. Muesli can be a health-promoting emergency food. ©M-J de Mesterton
