Tasteful Garden Furniture

Plastic furniture is all right indoors, especially if it is in the high-styled modern idiom, and was created by or emulates that of 1950s and 1960s designers such as Eero Saarinen. But outdoors, one ideally will have garden or patio furniture made from wrought iron or of teak-wood, which will not deteriorate from exposure to the elements. Wooden and iron furniture exists in perfect harmony with landscaping and nature, especially when made in greens, browns, and other earth-tones.
Here is my old garden courtyard, where I had outdoor dining furniture by the now-defunct, elegant wrought-iron furniture company Lyon-Shaw, and a smaller chat-table in iron, wicker and tile, by Alfresco Home.
My garden furniture, constructed of wrought iron and wood, blends well with nature.

Under-Cabinet Lamp

To light an area of the kitchen counter on which tall bottles are stored, and where cabinets above them create shadow, I have used a small lamp with a wrought-iron base and a classic shade. This tiny lamp resembles those used on restaurant tables, and takes a four-watt night-light bulb. ©M-J de Mesterton 2011

Elegant Aston Martin

More Royal Wedding Comments

My husband, who attended the wedding of Prince Charles and has played polo with him, just told me, without having viewed today's wedding himself, that the car Prince William was driving with his new bride is probably Father-of-the-Groom's twenty-year old Aston Martin DB6. Upon looking up the car model, I see that it is a different Aston Martin, the Volante, which could be an old family model as well. No matter what, the car that the Royal Couple were in after their nuptials (pronounced "nup-shals" NOT "nupshoo-als") is a dignified convertible of timeless style.

Barnara Walters is broadcasting from London weariing a white blazer in April. Tut, tut. Not only is it too early in the year to do so, BUT, she is not in the wedding party! Can't we leave white for the bride on her special day? Did Kelly Riipa really need to call attention to herself on her TV show with Regis this morning--by wearing a wedding gown and veil? And the very coarse show, The View, is going to have their own "Wedding of Kate and William" parody. Clowns....
